Gender Sensitizing for Design and Operation of Water Energy Climate Change Infrastructures in Soc Trang Province, Mekong Delta, Viet Nam

Project Overview
The Gender-Sensitizing for Design and Operation of Water-Energy-Climate Change Infrastructures in Soc Trang Province, Mekong Delta, Vietnam (GS4INFRA) is an interdisciplinary project funded by the Mekong Think Tank Programme. Its primary goal is to address gender-related issues in the policy and development of Water-Energy-Climate (WEC) infrastructure.

Key Objectives

  1. Integrate women’s needs: Ensure that WEC infrastructure design and operation consider the specific needs and experiences of women.
  2. Promote women’s participation: Increase women’s involvement in decision-making processes related to WEC infrastructure.
  3. Mitigate gender-based inequalities: Address disparities in access to and benefits from WEC infrastructure between men and women.

Methodology

The project will employ a multi-faceted approach:

  • Data collection: Gather information on how WEC infrastructure impacts women differently.
  • Policy recommendations: Develop policy recommendations based on the collected data.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Work closely with local stakeholders to co-develop practical recommendations.

Timeline

  • August 2024: Pre-field trip and meeting
  • September 2024: Project introduction, data collection, training program
  • November 2024: Policy consultation meeting
  • January 2025: Finalization of financial packages

Project Impact

The GS4INFRA project aims to contribute to more equitable and sustainable WEC infrastructure in Vietnam. By addressing gender-related issues, the project will help to ensure that women have equal access to the benefits of WEC infrastructure and can participate meaningfully in its development and management.
